Match Report: South Shields 5-0 Bamber Bridge

South Shields thrash Bamber Bridge 5-0 in the Pitching In Northern Premier League thanks to a Darius Osei and a Joao Gomes brace and one for Dylan Mottley-Henry.

Osei headed home the opener in the 14th minute in front of a crowd of over 1,600 at the 1st Cloud Arena.

Gomes then slotted home in the 38th minute to double the lead for South Shields before Osei grabbed his second and the Mariners’ third in the 42nd minute.

Shields continued to impress in the second half, Mottley-Henry got his goal in the 64th minute and Gomes completed his brace on the 82nd mark.

After a brilliant second-half performance on Saturday, Martin Smith and Osei scored to ensure the Mariners walked away with all three points against Stafford Rangers.

Bamber Bridge on North Tyneside desperate for a win, after a series of poor results, Brig dropped down to 10th place in the league.

In what was a South Shields side with a few changes to the starting eleven, Osei was rewarded with a start following his goal at the weekend.

Joao Gomes started ahead of Lewis Alessandra and new man Jordy Mongoy started on the bench following his loan move from Wealdstone yesterday.

The Shields number 10 was a menace in the open ten minutes, nearly came close on two occasions but Felix Goddard in goal for Bamber Bridge was quick off his line.

Osei headed home a brilliant Mackenzie Heaney cross in the 14th minute to fire the Mariners in front, his second goal in two games since his return to the club.

After the goal, there weren’t many real chances in the game, South Shields had much of the possession, however.

This changed in the 38th minute when Osei won his header in the box and laid it off to Blair Adams, the skipper headed it down to Gomes who curled it home to double the lead.

Just four minutes later Shields really made Bamber Bridge pay and made it three goals before the break, an almost repeat of the first goal – Heaney with a fantastic cross and Osei headed home, this time at the back post.

The second half continued just like the first, with South Shields enjoying much of the possession and having the majority of the chances.

It took until the 63rd minute for a breakthrough, however, Heaney again with a pinpoint delivery – this time from a corner and finding Mottley-Henry whose front post header deceived Goddard.

Bamber Bridge never really looked like troubling Kevin Phillips’ side throughout the game, who dominated much of the match.

Gomes nearly got his second of the evening in the 75th minute as he came in from the right and tried to bend one into the far post, but it fell for a goal kick.

Nearly a goal for the new signing Mongoy was through on goal, he did well to take the ball past the defender with some trick footwork but couldn’t get his shot away.

The Shields number 10, Gomes, did get his second of the evening, that truly seen off the travelling side.

Callum Ross, off the bench, whipped in a free kick in the 82nd minute which found Robert Briggs at the far post, he headed it down to Gomes who found the top corner beautifully.

After a late challenge on Jordan Hunter in the 90th minute, in which Aaron Skinner received the first yellow card of the evening, the right back was forced to leave the field meaning Shields played the remaining moments of the game down to 10 men.

But that did not trouble the Mariners who saw off the game, Phillips will be delighted with his side's performance this evening who well and truly beat Bamber Bridge.

Shields will look to carry this good result into Saturday as the side is away to Warrington Town in the Pitching In Northern Premier League.
