Chelsea F.C. have a hugely inflated squad. This is made up of the 25-man first team players and numerous players out on loan. The loaned-out players consist of future prospects sent out to develop, or unwanted players deemed not good enough by the club.
It is impossible to keep a squad of 50 plus players happy at one time, as well as the financial implications of outgoing costs on wages.
Chelsea have been known to have a competitive, world class academy producing players at the highest level for years. Even if they don’t make it at Chelsea, they have gone on to make excellent careers. Nathan Ake, Patrick van Aanholt, Scott Sinclair and Declan Rice are all casing points.
Under Frank Lampard’s stewardship, he promoted players from the prosperous academy when the club had a transfer ban sanctioned, in the 2019-2020 season. He trusted in their mentality, motivation and drive as well as natural, raw ability and made them into first team competitors.
In turn, this saved the club a fortune in player recruitment for future seasons. Players included, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour. Other hot prospects are out on loan in the English Premier League, Championship or abroad; evolving and gaining invaluable first team experience.
Chelsea are likely to recruit two or three players that can enhance the team in the Summer. The aim will be to compete for the title. Due to the emergence of academy products added to their first team, they certainly don’t need a big over-hall of players in. They most likely would look to who they can move on, who are no longer needed at Chelsea.
These could be players who are on the fringes of the first team, or spend a majority of time on the bench. Some of the players have tried and failed in the Premier League, but maybe more suited to a different club or in a league abroad.
Marina Granovskaia has a reputation of being a tough negotiator, as the director of football for Chelsea. She has had great success stories in selling players in the past and making a profit on them. But even if she gets close to market value for players that will be shipped out; the club will have a healthy income stream in this summer’s transfer window.
There will be interested takers for Chelsea players on the transfer list. Most of them are full internationals or rising stars. The Chelsea rejects could be sold to Premier League or Championship teams in England. Other league clubs that would take interest are in: France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
According to www.newsnow.co.uk, there are a myriad of players from Chelsea attracting attention elsewhere. They fall into the ‘unwanted by Chelsea’ category but would be useful assists for other teams.
www.transfermarkt.co.uk puts values on all of Chelsea owned players. Adding the market value of all potential transfer outgoings would come to £384.50.
