FIVE Scottish based players that Hartlepool United could sign this summer

Pools have been busy in the transfer market in the last week with six additions to the squad: Kyle Letheren Reghan Tumilty, Euan Murray, Alex Lacey, Mouhammed Niang and Jake Hastie have all been brought in by new manager Paul Hartley.

Hartley joined after two back-to-back promotion-winning campaigns with Cove Rangers in the Scottish lower leagues.

Many of Hartley's signings have come from the Scottish leagues so far, so following this trend we have identified five Scottish-based signings that Hartley could bring to bolster the Pools squad ready for the League Two campaign.

5) Euan Henderson

Mainly a left-winger, but capable of playing across the front three, the Hearts 21-year-old spent last campaign on loan at Scottish League One side Alloa Athletic.

He netted an impressive 18 goals and set up two more in his 36 games in all competitions, including two for parent club Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

Desperate for some options out wide, Henderson would be a welcome addition to the side and would bring some goals and directness to the Pools front three.

4) Michael McKenna

The top scorer in the Scottish Championship last season with 15 goals from attacking midfield - an impressive return as he helped his side to a second-place finish.

At 31 years old, he is an experienced midfielder with goals to his game, which is an area Hartlepool need to strengthen having let Gavan Holohan go last season.

McKenna also had eight assists to his name last campaign so will be a good provider for Omar Bogle who has yet to find a player who always looks to give him opportunities in the box.

3) Oli Shaw

With Marcus Carver not quite finding his feet yet for Pools, a new striker is something that Hartley should be looking at.

Shaw has been on fire for Kilmarnock this season in the Scottish Championship with 14 goals in 29 games - leading them to the title.

With former Killie man, Euan Murphy, already at Pools - Shaw will have a familiar face in the North East and it could tempt the Scot to cross the border and play in England for the first time.

2) Karamoko Dembele

The Celtic 'Wonderkid' will need little introduction for many football fans as he impressively made his debut for the Celtic Under 20s at just 13 years old back in 2016.

Now 19 years old, he has not really made a name for himself - still at Celtic the last campaign he was reduced to just two appearances due to an ankle injury.

A loan this season could do him the world of good and kick start his career - Hartley could use his links to Celtic Park and make a move for Dembele happen for Pools this season.

1) Charlie Adam

Out of contract this season, the former Scotland international and Premier League midfielder is now 36 and a move to League Two is not too farfetched as he looks to wind down his career.

He played 33 games in all competitions for Dundee FC last season, scoring four times and setting up six in the SPL, proving he can still play football to a good level.

Charlie Adam would be a massive name to bring to the Suit Direct and Hartley's links to Dundee could make it happen it is just the case of if Pools can afford him but it would be a great signing if it can be pulled off.
