FA Cup Preview: Solihull Moors vs Hartlepool United

Hartlepool United travel away to Solihull Moors in the first round of the FA Cup, the game will be played across the weekend of the 5th-6th of November.

Solihull Moors play in the National League and are doing well currently 6th in the table with six wins, four draws and three losses. At the time of writing they are in mixed form with their last five games being a win, loss, win, draw, loss.

They got into the first round of the FA Cup thanks to a 1-0 win at home to Basford United thanks to an Alex Reid goal.

Damson Park is where Moors play their home games, and where Pools will travel to. It is about a 3-and-a-half-hour drive from Hartlepool.

The top scorer Andy Dallas is on fire this season with seven goals already in the season with fellow striker Andy Reid not too far behind with six goals for the campaign.

Hartlepool United and Solihull Moors have faced each other three times over the years all in the National League.

The first time was in 2020, Aidan Keena was the only goalscorer in a 1-0 win at Damson Park. The return fixture that season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The following season Pools travelled to Solihull Moors and Timi Odusina was sent off as they lost 2-0.

But Pools struck back in the return fixture, Luke Armstrong scored just 11 minutes in and David Ferguson doubled the scoring in the second half to make the home side 2-0 winners.

They are managed by Neil Ardley, who was a decent player throughout the 90s and 00s playing over 200 games for Wimbledon and over 100 for Watford.

As a manager, he managed AFC Wimbledon in the Football League for six years, before joining Notts County - but after failing to get the side promoted out of the National League he left in 2021 and joined Solihull where he has been since.

Pools will be looking to prove a point against Solihull Moors and with this tie, have a decent chance to progress into the next round.

Last season, Pools did well in the FA Cup and were rewarded with an away tie to Premier League side Crystal Palace. Pools lost the game 2-0 but did not look bad despite the much higher opposition.
