DOUBLE AGENTS: 12 players to have played for both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of Liverpool's clash against Tottenham Hotspur this evening and The Beautiful Game looks at the players who have played for both giants of English football.

 

1) Nick Barmby

Barmby started his career at Tottenham in 1992 playing 108 times scoring 28 goals, he then moved to Middlesbrough.


He moved to Everton and then very rarely to Liverpool, he did not really settle in to Liverpool in 2000 playing 57 times and scoring eight goals across two seasons.


However he did win a treble with Liverpool the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. He moved on to Leeds, Nottingham Forest and then Hull were he finished his career.

 

2) Steven Caulker

The centre back came through the youth academy at Spurs, making his debut in the 2010/11 season after two seasons out on loan.


He played often in the 2012/13 season but moved to Cardiff the following season and then to Queens Park Rangers, after their relegation he moved on loan to Southampton in 2015/16 and played eight times.


This loan was cut short and he signed for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool instead were he only played four times mainly as an auxiliary striker late on as a sub.


Injuries and mental health problems troubles his career and he moved to Dundee United in Scotland in 2017 and then over to Turkey in 2018 with Alanyaspor were he has played regularly ever since.

 

3) Ray Clemence

 

A true Liverpool legend and arguably the Reds best ever keeper, he was signed from Scunthorpe United in 1967.


He went on to make over 400 appearances for Liverpool winning a plethora of different trophies including the First Division title five times and the European Cup three times among different trophies.


The emergence of Bruce Grobelaar meant Clemence moved on to Spurs in 1981 and played over 200 times winning an FA Cup and UEFA Cup, retiring in 1988.

 

4) Peter Crouch

Crouchy started at Tottenham but could not break through into the first team moving onto play for a plethora of different clubs in the Premier League.


He signed for Liverpool in 2006 and played 142 times scoring 42 goals winning the FA Cup and Community shield during his three year stint on Merseyside.


Harry Redknapp brought him to Porstmouth and then he resigned for Spurs again with Redknapp scoring 24 in 93 for Spurs.

 

5) Brad Friedel

Friedel arrived in England, eventually after work permit trouble, with Liverpool in 1997 after spells in Europe with Brondby and Galatasaray.


He was mainly used as a back up keeper during his time only playing 31 times across three seasons, he moved on to Blackburn Rovers and then Aston Villa were he played a lot more regularly


Tottenham brought him in on a free transfer in 2011 where he was the clubs first choice, before Hugo Lloris was brought in a year later - he played 67 times for Spurs retiring after the 2014/15 season at 44 years old.

 

6) Robbie Keane

Keane was somewhat of a journeyman throughout his career and is a true Tottenham legend, he signed for them in 2002 after starting with Wolves and playing for Coventry, Inter Milan and Leeds.


He scored 122 goals in 306 games over his two spells with Tottenham, his move to Liverpool came in 2008 when the Reds convinced him to come to Merseyside.


The Irishman's spell at Liverpool was hit and miss scoring seven goals in 28 games and he returned to Tottenham six months later.

 

7) Paul Konchesky

The left back started his career at Charlton and became the clubs left back, but found himself out of the side in 2003 and he was loaned to Spurs.


He played fifteen times in North London but a permanent move never materialised and he returned to Charlton, moving on to West Ham in 2005 and then for Fulham in 2007.


Konchesky signed for Liverpool in 2010 but struggled for form and was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in January, he played 18 times for the Reds leaving for Leicester a year later.

 

8) Danny Murphy

Murphy signed for Liverpool from Crewe Alexandria in 1997 and became a great player for Liverpool, playing regularly throughout the early 2000s.


Scoring 44 goals in 246 games for the Reds across seven seasons, winning the treble in 2001 among other accolades, he moved on for Charlton Athletic in 2004.


He was brought to Spurs in 2005 but did not play a great deal for the club, 29 games, and he moved on to Fulham a year later.

 

9) Jamie Redknapp

Redknapp was brought to Liverpool as an 18 year old in 1991 and went on to make 208 appearances with the Reds scoring 41 goals.


He became the club captain in 2000 but injuries plagued his later career and he left for Tottenham in 2002, he never played more than 20 times a season for Spurs and left for Southampton in 2004.


He retired after just a season with the Saints at the age of 31 due to injury.

 

10) Neil 'Razor' Ruddock

Razor started his career with Millwall but moved to Spurs in 1986, but broke his leg and only played 11 times, he moved back to Millwall in 1988 and then to Southampton a year later.


He returned to Tottenham in 1992 and played 47 times in one season before he moved to Liverpool again just a year later.


The centre half played 152 times for the Reds scoring 12 goals across six seasons, eventually leaving for West Ham in 1998.

 

11) Graeme Souness

Souness started his career with Spurs but only played once, signing for Middlesbrough in 1972.


Bob Paisley brought him to Anfield in 1977 and he won the First Division five times the League Cup three times and the European Cup three times.


He was captain during his 359 games for Liverpool and eventually became manager in 1991 for three years where he won the FA Cup.

 

12) Paul Walsh

The forward started with Charlton in 1979 and moved to Luton in the First Division in 1982 playing for two seasons until he signed for Liverpool in 1984.


Walsh scored 37 times in 112 games on Merseyside winning the First Division and the Football League Super Cup in 1986.


He signed for Tottenham from Liverpool in 1986, he played for five seasons, winning the FA Cup in 1991 and went on to score 21 times in 156 games for Spurs.
