Report: Throston Hotspur 2-1 FC Vibes

Throston Hotspur victorious on opening day of the season after tightly contested game at home to Vibes.

Throston started strongly with goal straight away in the first minute as Vibes were caught with a good ball through and after some mistimed defending the Throston number 9 could finish into the bottom corner.

Vibes nearly got back into it in the 11th minute through Barry Milligan down the right but his shot was saved by the keeper, a couple of good chances for Vibes but nothing too testing.

Liam Jackson produced some heroic defending clearing a ball off the line in the 15th minute keeping the scoring at 1-0 after a break down the left for Hotspur.

Milligan nearly equalised once again, after Jaime Jobson drilled it into the box, but his shot was saved by the Hotspur shotstopper.

John Sutherland denied a second with a good save in the 50th minute, a closely contested affair so far.

Vibes did find an equaliser through Craig Altringham, the move started with Joppa drifting out wide who played it to Michael Connolly who played a superb cross into the far post and turned in with a good header by Altringham.

Throston found what was the winner in the 73rd minute after some good play down the right and a ball into the far post and it was a simple finish to make it 2-1.

Liam Gough nearly found an equaliser in the 88th minute as he met the ball from a Jack Stonehouse corner, but his header was straight at the keeper.

A great game for the opening day, both sides could have got something from the game and Vibes feel like they should have got at least a point, if not three.

Danny Trathan won man of the match after a fantastic game at left back, solid defensively and never really put a foot wrong.

Vibes XI: Sutherland (c); Costello, Jackson, Pearson, Trathan; Stonehouse, Altringham; Milligan, Connolly, Watt; Jobson

Subs: L. Gough, Ad. Thompson, J. Boarder, J. Ingram, D. Dickinson, B. Relton
