Report: Billingham Cowpen Club 3-2 FC Vibes

Billingham Cowpen Club into next round of County Cup after edging FC Vibes in tightly contested fixture.

Cowpen Club started off strongly straight from kick off, producing a shot at goal straight away which was forced wide for a corner – which lead to nothing.

Billingham kept up the pressure early in the game and in the 12th minute the number 9 whipped in, but the forwards header was all over.

The first goal came in the 15th minute for Cowpen Club as number 7 shot from distance across goal which went in off the far post, a great opener.

It would have been 2-0 a minute later as they were again through on goal, but Adam Pearson made a great last-ditch tackle to prevent the forward.

This led to an equaliser in the 19th minute as Joe Boarder got hold of the ball and played a through ball into Barry Milligan down the right who came inside and took it close to the keeper and placed it in.

Vibes were not level for long as in the 32nd minute Billingham won a corner and whipped it in, but John Sutherland could not claim it correctly and turned it behind for an own goal.

Michael Connolly could have got an equaliser as he was played through on goal two minutes later, but he dragged his shot wide.

Billingham got their final goal in the 39th minute, number 7 was played through on goal and squared it to the number 9, who tapped it into the empty net after Sutherland came out to claim.

Vibes tried to get back into the game into the second half but could not get a clear shot on goal as Billingham held what they had.

However, Vibes got what was only a consolation in the 81st minute as Olly Watt was fouled inside of the box and Jack Stonehouse stepped up and fired it home.

That was how the match ended, disappointing result for Vibes who could not seem to find an equaliser or a winner.

Craig Altringham won man of the match in the game, controlling the game as always from midfield.

Vibes XI: Sutherland(c); Campbell, Pearson, Jackson, Watt; An. Thompson, Altringham; Milligan, Stonehouse, Connolly; Boarder

Subs: A. Costello, C. Shackleton, Ad. Thompson, J. Jobson, B. Relton
